Another delegation observed that the expression “lignes directrices” in French would be more adequate (for “guidelines”) than “directives”.
وأشار أحد الوفود إلى أن مصطلــــح Lignes directrices بالفرنسيـــــة سيكــــون أنســـب للتعبير عن “guidelines” من “directives”.
The expression “lignes directrices” was more apt, for the outcome of the work would be a guide designed to assist States, rather than binding rules.
وأضـــاف أن تعبير “lignes directrices” هو تعبير أكثر ملاءمة لأن النتيجة التي ستنتهي إليها أعمال اللجنة ستكون دليلا يراد به مساعدة الدول وليس قواعد ملزمة.
Mr. Florent (France) reiterated his view that, in the French version, the term “directive” was not appropriate, and should be replaced by “ligne directrice”.

In Spanish, it would perhaps be best to refer to the Court-to-Court Guidelines using this term only, as in paragraph 51 of part III.B, for example, rather than as “Directrices europeas”, as in the Glossary in the Introduction.

France (A/C.6/53/SR.16, para. 65, and A/C.6/54/SR.24, para. 38) and Niger (A/C.6/54/SR.25, para. 104) disputed the use of the word “directives”, and would prefer the term “lignes directrices”; the Special Rapporteur is not convinced that this change is warranted.
