Corals grow by combining carbon dioxide and sunlight.

Within the industrial processes sector, the combined carbon dioxide equivalent emissions of HFCs and PFCs in 1995 was estimated to be less than 20 per cent.

One option is a shift to non-carbon energy sources, such asrenewable energy (solar and wind power) and nuclear energy. Anotheroption is to combine carbon-based energy (coal, oil, and gas) withnew technologies that prevent the emission of airbornecarbon.

The urea units include urea reactors, which combine the ammonia with carbon dioxide to produce urea particles known as “brills”.

(b) A 45 per cent reduction in greenhouse gas emissions related to energy consumption (measured according to the World Resources Institute greenhouse gas reporting protocol, as combined effects of carbon dioxide, nitrous oxide and methane, reported in carbon dioxide equivalents);

Any Parties included in Annex I that have reached an agreement to fulfil their respective commitments under subparagraph (a) above jointly, shall be deemed to have met those commitments provided that their total combined aggregate anthropogenic carbon dioxide equivalent emissions of the greenhouse gases listed in Annex A do not exceed their assigned amounts inscribed in Annex B.

Proposed new subsection on joint fulfilment: Any Parties included in Annex I that have reached an agreement to fulfil their respective commitments under subparagraph (a) above jointly, shall be deemed to have met those commitments provided that their total combined aggregate anthropogenic carbon dioxide equivalent emissions of the greenhouse gases listed in Annex A do not exceed their assigned amounts inscribed in Annex B.

“Any Parties included in Annex I that have reached an agreement to fulfill their commitments under Article 3 jointly, shall be deemed to have met those commitments provided that their total combined aggregate anthropogenic carbon dioxide equivalent net emissions of the greenhouse gases listed in Annex A do not exceed their assigned amounts calculated pursuant to their quantified emission limitation and reduction commitments inscribed in Annex B and in accordance with the provisions of Article 3.
