At present, groundwater resources in the Arab Region, in general, and in the Arabian Peninsula in particular, are in a critical condition as the volumes withdrawn far exceed their natural recharge resulting in a continuous decline in groundwater levels and quality deterioration in most of the countries due to seawater and connate waters encroachment.
وفي الوقت الحاضر، يتسم وضع موارد المياه الجوفية في المنطقة العربية، بوجه عام، وفي شبه الجزيرة العربية بوجه خاص، بأنه وضع حرج إذ أن الأحجام المسحوبة تتجاوز بكثير تجدد مياهها بصورة طبيعية مما يؤدي إلى هبوط مستمر في مناسيب المياه الجوفية وتدهور نوعية المياه العذبة في معظم البلدان بسبب توغل مياه البحر والمياه الحبيسة.
