Apimondia exists to promote scientific, technical, ecological, social and economic apicultural development in all countries and the cooperation of beekeepers' associations, scientific bodies and of individuals involved in apiculture worldwide.

The scheme provides grants for sheep farming and for apiculture, and subsidies for the purchase of herbicides.

Apicultural specialty commodities such as honey, beeswax, and bee pollen are seen as having excellent production and market potential in the Virgin Islands.

It also aims to put into practice every initiative that can contribute to improving apiculture practice and to rendering the obtained products profitable.

Phase I combines the sustainable intensification of crop production systems with small-scale irrigation and water control and diversification in small animal production, including apiculture, aquaculture and artisanal fisheries.

Through the Telefood Campaign, which seeks to promote an increased awareness of the need and urgency to combat hunger and gender inequality, FAO has supported 8 projects in Brazil that focus mainly on apiculture, poultry production and organic vegetable production.

Programmes that have proven effective in sustaining their livelihoods are those targeted on the development of skills for specialized farming (such as apiculture, sericulture and vermiculture), enterprise development associated with tool manufacture and repair, and food processing.

They include industrial roundwood, fuelwood, and non-wood forest products (e.g. animal fodder, apiculture, essential oils, tannins, cork, latex, food) and conservation, environmental services (e.g. carbon sequestration, salinity control, biodiversity services) recreation (e.g. hunting, fishing, hiking) erosion control and rehabilitation of degraded land.

Intensive training courses on apiculture in co-operation with the Directorate of Animal Production of the Ministry of Agriculture from 1-7-2003 to 31-7-2003, in which a total number of 152 women beekeepers took part and were trained (i.e. 25.33% of the total number of trainees).
