23.4.5.1 The Administration of Estates Act, Cap 45 of The Laws of Sierra Leone 1960 deals with the administration of estates and the distribution of intestate estates.

Policy work is needed to address inconsistencies in law on adoption, divorce, administration of estates and aspects of matrimonial property.

The Administration of Estates Act was amended to provide for the succession rights of parties to a common law union.

A similar lack of procedural rules has also impeded the enforcement of the Administration of Estates Act.
