The new Civil Code (Law 10406/02), which entered into force in early 2003, suppressed anachronous provisions that treated women derogatorily.
فالقانون المدني الجديد (القانون 10406/2002) الذي دخل حيز النفاذ في أوائل سنة 2003، ألغى أحكاما لا تتماشى مع العصر تعالج المسائل المتعلقة بالمرأة بطريقة تنطوي على الازدراء.
Having granted subjects of the Celestial Empire, in an 1863 treaty, treatment equal to that enjoyed by United States citizens, the United States Government, faced with the steadily increasing influx of what was derogatorily called the “yellow immigration” or “yellow peril”, ceased to fulfil the terms of the treaty and then negotiated with China a new treaty, the Treaty of 17 November 1880, granting it the right to suspend or limit the immigration of labourers “whenever it deems it necessary for the protection of its interests”.
فبعد أن أفردت الحكومة الأمريكية لرعايا إمبراطورية الصين، في عام 1863، بمقتضى معاهدة، معاملة مماثلة للمعاملة التي تفردها للأمريكيين، فإنها في مواجهة التدفق المتزايد باطراد لما سمي آنذاك قدحا ''بالهجرة الصفراء`` أو ''الخطر الأصفر``، توقفت عن تطبيق شروط المعاهدة ثم تفاوضت مع الصين بشأن اتفاقية جديدة، هي معاهدة 17 تشرين الثاني/نوفمبر 1880، التي تخولها حق تعليق هجرة العمال أو الحد منها ''عندما ترى ضرورة ذلك للحفاظ على مصالحها``.
