• Developments in the situation in Lebanon were discussed at the extraordinary session of the Council of the League at ministerial level (15 June 2007), following the assassination of Deputy Walid Eido and the outbreak of skirmishes between the Lebanese army and the so-called Fatah al-islam organization, a terrorist group, in the Nahr al-Bared camp. The Council adopted resolution 6784, of which paragraph 8 stipulates the formation of a high-level delegation, under the chairmanship of the Secretary-General and with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (Summit Presidency), the Republic of Tunisia (chair of the current session of the Ministerial Council), the State of Qatar (the Arab member on the Security Council) and the Arab Republic of Egypt as members. The delegation will be charged with conducting liaison and meetings with the Lebanese President, the National Assembly, the Lebanese Government and the various Lebanese political leaders in the light of the terrorism and crimes of assassination, arms smuggling and armed infiltration to which Lebanon has been exposed, working to provide a suitable atmosphere to renew Lebanese national dialogue on the various issues raised and conducting the necessary liaison with different regional and international parties concerned with developments in the situation in Lebanon. Paragraph nine of the aforementioned resolution states that the delegation shall present the results of its work to the Council of the League as soon as possible.
  أما فيما يتعلق بالأزمة السياسية الداخلية، فلقد واصلتُ خلال الفترة الماضية اتصالاتي ومشاوراتي مع مختلف القيادات اللبنانية ومع الجهات الإقليمية والدولية المعنية بتطورات الوضع في لبنان من أجل مساعدة اللبنانيين على استئناف الحوار الوطني والتوصل إلى صيغة حل للخروج من الأزمة الراهنة، ولقد جرى بحث مستجدات الوضع في لبنان في الدورة غير العادية لمجلس الجامعة الوزاري بتاريخ 15/6/2007، وذلك أثر اغتيال النائب وليد عيدو واندلاع الاشتباكات بين الجيش اللبناني وما يسمى منظمة فتح الإسلام الإرهابية في مخيم نهر البارد، وصدر عن المجلس القرار رقم 6784 والذي نص في فقرته (8) على: ”تشكيل وفد رفيع المستوى برئاسة الأمين العام وعضوية كل من المملكة العربية السعودية(رئاسة القمة) والجمهورية التونسية (رئاسة الدورة الحالية للمجلس الوزاري) ودولة قطر (العضو العربي في مجلس الأمن) وجمهورية مصر العربية، وتكليفه القيام بإجراء الاتصالات واللقاءات مع الرئاسة ومجلس النواب والحكومة اللبنانية ومختلف القيادات السياسية اللبنانية في ضوء ما يتعرض له لبنان من إرهاب وجرائم اغتيالات وتهريب للسلاح وتسلل المسلحين، والعمل على توفير الأجواء الملائمة لاستئناف الحوار الوطني اللبناني حول مختلف القضايا المطروحة، وكذلك إجراء ما يلزم من اتصالات مع مختلف الأطراف الإقليمية والدولية المعنية بتطورات الوضع في لبنان“، كما نصت الفقرة (9) من القرار المشار إليه: ”يعرض الوفد نتائج جهوده على مجلس الجامعة في أسرع وقت ممكن“.
