The Council recalls in many respects the Constitutional Council of France with some differences, including the mandate for a posteriori control of the constitutionality of acts and the public hearing of cases relating to general elections.

It has also provided a framework for the following: (a) the exchange policy, with the new regulations to liberalize currency exchange (decree law no. 004/2001 of 31 January 2001); (b) the policy for mining and investment, with the new code on mining and investment; (c) the pricing policy, with the strengthening of the regime introduced by Order no. 83/026 of 12 September 1983 on the liberalization of prices, accompanied by a posteriori controls.
