Given that the conflict in Liberia brought the logging activities to a halt, it is not yet possible to demonstrate any measurable impact on the timber industry of the timber sanctions in force since 7 July 2003. Therefore, the analysis that follows explores what would be the impact of sanctions if the security situation permitted some level of logging activities (“no fighting and sanctions”).

Given the critical role of the Field Systems Service in providing backstopping support to ICT personnel in peacekeeping operations by consolidating application needs in the field, developing and leveraging common solutions, which can be broadly implemented in the peacekeeping operations, a Chief at the P-5 level is required to lead the process of actively reducing the number of legacy systems in the Organization, migrate essential information and data to new enterprise systems while ensuring that there are adequate levels of logging, verification and accountability tracking built into the systems, and furthermore, that these planned enterprise systems integrate seamlessly to allow a single authoritative version of information in the Organization.
ونظراً للدور الأساسي لدائرة النظم الميدانية في توفير المساندة إلى موظفي تكنولوجيا المعلومات والاتصالات في عمليات حفظ السلام، من خلال دعم احتياجات التطبيقات في الميدان، واستحداث وتعزيز حلول مشتركة يمكن تطبيقها على نطاق واسع في عمليات حفظ السلام، ينبغي تعيين رئيس برتبة ف-5 لقيادة عملية نشطة تتمثل في الحد من عدد النظم القديمة في المنظمة، وترحيل المعلومات والبيانات الجوهرية إلى نظم المؤسسة الجديدة، مع كفالة توفر مستويات مناسبة من التسجيل والتحقق وتتبع المساءلة كجزء من تكوين النظم، وتكامل نظم المؤسسة المقررة هذه بسلاسة فيما بينها لإتاحة نسخة رسمية واحدة من المعلومات على صعيد المنظمة.
